What Is A Chemical Peel?

Chemical Peels have been around for decades in the Medical Aesthetic industry. In Ancient Egypt, Cleopatra even had her own version of a chemical peel, bathing in sour milk (lactic acid) to produce smooth skin, but dermatologists pioneered skin peeling for therapeutic benefits in 1882.

Today chemical peels, or facial peels, are used as a form of exfoliation and utilize the power of chemicals to safely remove a damaged layer of skin. Your body then quickly replenishes the skin cells with new ones.

Like all of our services at Sage Spa, our Chemical Peel options vary depending on your skin type, concerns, and history. Our peels are performed by trained skincare professionals in a clinical setting and we always ensure they are delivered safely and effectively. Your skincare specialist completes a through skin analysis and will recommend an individualized treatment program specific to your skin. We will also create a personalized program that combines professional treatments with home care products since they work synergistically to improve the health and beauty of skin. Pre-treatment products precondition the skin, accelerate results and minimize complications. Post-treatment products minimize complications, heal and soothe the skin and then maintain the results. Professional treatments enhance the results of your home care products.

Levels Of Chemical Peels:

There are different levels of chemical peels - each one has a different intensity. If you are new to Chemical Peels, your skincare professional will guide you in the right direction to what will work best for you.

Level 1 – Superficial Peel - no visible exfoliation. 1-3 days of light exfoliation, little to no flaking.
Level II – medium to moderate peeling, 2-4 days of light/medium exfoliation, light to moderate flaking.
Level III – deep peeling, 3-5 days of aggressive peeling.

The Perfect Dermapeel is considered a medium depth peel - level 2 - but it does have a fairly dramatic peel.

What ARE The Perfect DERMA Peel INGREDIENTS?

While glutathione is the main ingredient, the peel also has a blend of other acids, powerful antioxidants, and peptides such as:

Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA)
Salicylic Acid
Retinoic Acid
Kojic Acid
Phenol
Vitamin C

TCA and retinoic acid have anti-aging effects to reduce line and wrinkles, while the other ingredients are mostly for hyperpigmentation treatment and scar reduction. The phenol is there for a slightly numbing effect.

THE PERFECT DERMA PEEL PROCESs

Peeling usually starts at the end of day 2 and will continue for four days. Usually, it is complete by day seven. If you work full-time and in the public, we highly recommend planning to take days 3-5 off as the skin peeling is significant. By day 6 the peeling usually has receded to around the hairline.
